Red and gold is the identity of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). That has been the case since 2008.

But there’s one day when they go all green. Basically, all RCB players wear green jerseys in one of their league stage games.

But why do RCB wear green jerseys? And since when?

RCB’s players first wore green jerseys back in 2011. Since then, it has been an annual affair.

They started to don the green kits to promote their ‘Green Initiative’. The initiative goes beyond the entertainment on the cricket field.

The franchise delivers a powerful message on global warming and environmental sustainability. And it clearly reflects in their specially crafted green jersey and other efforts.

What’s so special about RCB’s green jersey?

Well, the franchise uses 100% recycled material to make these green jerseys. This sets a good example in front of everyone to achieve sustainability through sports.

RCB’s sustainability efforts don’t just end with the jerseys. They also make the toss extra special.

Apart from the usual handshakes, you’ll notice RCB’s captain hand over a sapling to the opponent skipper on the match day. It acts as a symbol of the franchise’s efforts towards a sustainable environment.

Outside the field, RCB also work on the ground level to reduce carbon emissions.

The franchise looks after the waste management at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. They also use solar energy for lighting at the venue. And the franchise also encourages their fans to use public transport on match days.

What’s even more impressive is RCB keep track of all their operational carbon footprint. They analyse their emissions from travel, accommodation and energy consumption.
