Top 5: Best Batting Average in IPL History

While batting average doesn’t hold a lot of significance in T20 cricket, it does show how consistent a batter is over a long period. The more runs a batter scores between their dismissal, the higher the chances of a better average.

These days, the emphasis has shifted to scoring quick runs. But one can’t overlook the importance of batting deeper to score big knocks.

And those who grind for a longer time on the pitch end up with the highest averages. The IPL has seen batters taking a balanced approach in their run-making, which has helped them improve their averages.

So here are the top five batters with the best batting average in IPL history. (Note: Batters with at least 25 innings are considered in the list.)

5. Cameron Green | 41.58

Cameron Green first appeared in the IPL in 2023. And in just two seasons, he showed his consistency with the bat.

The Australian batter has batted at several positions, but he has adapted well. Green’s first season with Mumbai Indians (MI) was fruitful before a decent stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2024.

In all, Green has scored 707 runs in 28 innings at an average of 41.58. He has remained not out 11 times.

4. Devon Conway | 42.83

Devon Conway has been a dependable batter for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He first played for the franchise in 2022.

While Conway was left out of the squad after his debut game, he made a sensational comeback to seal his spot. And then the Kiwi batter had a remarkable season in 2023.

Conway then missed the 2024 season and couldn’t quite make an impact on his return in 2025. Nevertheless, he averages 42.83 with over 1000 runs under his belt in 28 outings.

3. Shashank Singh | 43.50

Shashank Singh’s stars shone bright in IPL 2024. He was a standout batter for Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Shashank has carried the form in 2025, often providing deft finishes or putting up rescue acts. His ability to remain calm under pressure situations and score runs with ease has made him a mainstay in Punjab’s lineup.

And that’s why he has delivered many impactful knocks while staying on the crease in crucial moments.

Shashank has aggregated close to 700 runs in 29 innings, with his average stretching above 43.

2. KL Rahul | 46.31

Given how KL Rahul started his IPL career, it would’ve been hard to imagine his presence on this list. But the right-hand batter shifted gears in 2016.

Since then, Rahul has been among the consistent run-makers in the IPL. And it reflects in his batting average.

Except for the 2023 season, Rahul has accumulated 300 or more runs in each season since 2016. This tells how improved a batter he has become in all those years.

The 2025 season saw him cross the 5000-run mark while maintaining his average above 46.

1. Sai Sudharsan | 50.03

Sai Sudharsan is a modern-day batter made from the ‘traditional batter’ mould. He takes a measured approach in T20s, where most batters go on an all-attack mode.

And it has paid dividends for Sai and his team, Gujarat Titans (GT). The Tamil Nadu batter has risen as a reliable batter for the Titans in the IPL.

Sai has often provided them with steady and solid starts while pacing his run-scoring cleverly. And no wonder, Sai has the best batting average in the IPL now.

Sai averages close to 50 in his short yet effective career while scoring around 1700 runs.
