List: Bowlers with Multiple Hat-Tricks in IPL History

A bowler taking a hat-trick is no less than magic. And not every bowler is a magician with the ball.

A few bowlers, though, stand apart for their abilities to pick up hat-tricks not once, but multiple times. The Indian Premier League (IPL), which is perhaps tougher on bowlers, has seen a handful of them take two or more hat-tricks.

Here, in this piece, let’s look at the bowlers with multiple hat-tricks in the IPL.

1. Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh was the first-ever bowler to take two hat-tricks in the IPL. And both of his hat-tricks came within 17 days as captain in the same season!

The left-arm spinner’s first hat-trick came against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2009. RCB were in a decent position at 80 for 3 at 11.4 overs. But by the end of the 12th over, they slumped to 80 for 5, thanks to Yuvraj’s double jolts.

The Kings XI Punjab spinner got rid of Robin Uthappa and Jacques Kallis. Yuvraj came back in the 14th over and delivered another blow to complete his hat-trick.

Later, Yuvraj contributed 50 runs with the bat, but Punjab couldn’t win the match. Even though Punjab lost, the all-rounder won the Player of the Match (POTM) honour.

Seventeen days later, Yuvraj produced another POTM award-winning performance. This time, it came against Deccan Chargers.

Yuvraj’s second hat-trick was almost a repeat of his first. But this one came in a tough game where Punjab had to defend 135 runs.

And Yuvraj stepped up like a true leader. Deccan were steady in their chase at 73 for 2. But then Yuvraj struck his first wicket at the end of the 12th over.

The left-hander came back in the 14th over to dismiss two more batters on the first two balls to leave Deccan in tatters at 79 for 5. These back-to-back blows slowed down Deccan’s chase, which helped Punjab sneak in a one-run win.

2. Amit Mishra

You’d perhaps think taking two hat-tricks is a mighty feat. It sure is, but Amit Mishra went a step ahead to make it three, the most a bowler has picked up in the IPL!

Mishra’s first hat-trick came for Delhi Daredevils against Deccan Chargers in 2008. It was the last over of the match, and Mishra had to defend 15 runs.

And the leg spinner did his job to perfection. He dismissed Deccan’s three batters on the first three balls to turn the tide in Delhi’s favour. This also gave Mishra his career-best bowling figures of 5 for 17 as Delhi won by 12 runs.

Three years later, Mishra turned up for the same side he had taken his first hat-trick against, Deccan Chargers. This time, he killed the game at the start of the slog overs.

Punjab were almost out of the game at 102 for 5 while chasing a 199-run target. Then Mishra’s three consecutive strikes in the 16th over almost sealed the game for Deccan. The leggie took another wicket in the 18th over to return with the figures of 4 for 9.

Mishra’s third hat-trick came for another Hyderabad-based franchise in 2013. In a low-scoring game between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Pune Warriors, Mishra’s performance turned out to be the point of difference.

SRH had put up a below-par 119 runs in the first innings. In response, Pune were on 106 for 6 after the 18th over.

Pune needed 14 runs in two overs. The equation wasn’t difficult to achieve. But Mishra spun his web in the 19th over to take SRH home.

On the second ball, he got rid of a set Angelo Mathews. On the last three balls of the over, Mishra wrapped up Pune’s tail to grab his third IPL hat-trick.

Mishra ended up with four wickets for 19 runs in four overs. Earlier in the game, he played a crucial knock of 30 runs off 24 balls.

3. Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal, the top wicket-taker in the league, is the latest entrant to this exclusive club. He has picked up two hat-tricks, almost three years apart.

The leg spinner bagged his first for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022. Chahal’s timely hat-trick brought RR back into the game.

KKR were sailing at 178 for 4 in a run chase of 218 runs. Then Chahal turned the match upside down with four wickets in the 17th over.

While the first one came on the first ball, the other three came on the last three deliveries to give him the figures of 5 for 40. This effort helped RR defend their total by seven runs.

Fast forward to 2025, Chahal racked up his second against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), this time for Punjab Kings (PBKS).

The leggie had figures of 0 for 23 in two overs bowled in the first half. He then returned in the penultimate over of CSK’s innings to end up with 4 for 32!

Chahal started with a wide and a six before removing MS Dhoni. CSK batters ran a couple on the third ball before Yuzi clamped them down.

The leg spinner dismissed three batters on the last three deliveries to leave CSK short of reaching 200 runs.
