While such a method comes with its own risk, it has also given us some record team totals, which were once considered almost impossible. And the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been at the forefront of making these things possible in reality.

5. SRH: 266/7 vs DC | 2024
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) took IPL 2024 by storm. And it was all thanks to their insane batters.
Riding on their back, SRH almost made a habit of putting up 250-plus totals. While they had already made and broken the previous records before this game, they continued to showcase their batting might against Delhi Capitals (DC).
The opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma put up a 131-run stand in 6.2 overs! With such a solid start, everyone thought 300 runs were on the cards. But SRH lost wickets at crucial points to prompt them to settle on 266 for 7.
4. KKR: 272/7 vs DC | 2024
Before suffering the hammering at the hands of SRH, DC’s bowlers had a meltdown against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). On a batter-friendly Vizag surface, KKR’s batters made the most of the conditions.
Sunil Narine, who had a solid impact with the bat in 2024, was the top scorer for KKR. He blasted 85 off 39, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi (54 off 27) provided enough support from the other end.
Then Andre Russell (41 off 19) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8) provided the finishing touches to push KKR’s total to 272 for 7.
3. SRH: 277/3 vs MI | 2024
Before this game, 263 was the highest total scored by a team. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were the record holders for 11 long years.
But SRH went a few steps ahead of RCB on a flatter Hyderabad deck. Abhishek and Head built a strong foundation with quick 60-odd runs each. Then Aiden Markram (42* off 28) and Heinrich Klaasen (80* off 34) finished the innings on a high to take SRH to 277 for 3.
2. SRH: 286/6 vs RR | 2025
The Sunrisers picked up from where they left off in 2024. In their first game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2025, SRH almost toppled their own record.
After a rapid start, Ishan Kishan scored the bulk of the runs for his new IPL franchise. He brought up his maiden IPL ton to guide SRH to 286 for 6.
Head contributed 67 runs from 31 balls, while Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Abhishek played handy knocks.

SRH continued their mayhem in the 2024 season. And it landed them a new record as they went past their 277 runs, scored a little over two weeks ago.
This time, RCB, who once held the first position in this list, faced the heat. Their bowlers were hapless as SRH’s top order fired on all cylinders.
Head led the charge with 102 off 41, while Heinrich Klaasen scored 67 from 31 balls. Abhishek, Markram, and Abdul Samad contributed quick-fire 30s, which propelled SRH to 287, the highest-ever team total in the IPL.
