What once felt like a good total slowly became par. Then par started looking below average. And somewhere along the way, 250 stopped feeling impossible.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been at the forefront of making these things possible in reality.
Here are the five highest team totals recorded in IPL history.
5. KKR: 272/7 vs DC | 2024
Delhi Capitals (DC) had a meltdown against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2024. On a flat Vizag surface, KKR’s batters found boundaries without forcing them.
Sunil Narine set the tempo with 85 off 39. At the other end, Angkrish Raghuvanshi kept things moving with his 54 off 27.
And then the last few overs happened. Andre Russell (41 off 19) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8) finished KKR’s innings on 272 for 7.
4. SRH: 277/3 vs MI | 2024
For years, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) 263 stood untouched. Then this game arrived.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma gave it a start that felt aggressive but controlled. The kind where bowlers know they’re under pressure, but don’t quite know how much yet.
By the time Heinrich Klaasen (80* off 34) and Aiden Markram (42* off 28) walked in, the field had already spread. But they kept the momentum going.
And the result? Hyderabad did what looked pretty impossible. They posted 277 for 3 on the scoreboard.
3. SRH: 278/3 vs KKR | 2025
Some totals chase records. Some just brush past them on the way. This is one those totals.
SRH crossed 250 twice in 2025. Not surprising by any means. It felt more like a routine!
As usual, Travishek set the tone with their quick opening stand. 92 runs in 6.5 overs!
Then Klaasen took it to another level. A bit faster this time. His 37-ball hundred that didn’t allow KKR bowlers to breath at any point.
But KKR somehow pulled things back slightly at the end. Just enough to keep SRH under 280.
The match, though, had already drifted away by then. 278 for 3 was way out of KKR’s reach by all means!
2. SRH: 286/6 vs RR | 2025
By the time IPL 2025 rolled in, it wasn’t about whether SRH would go big. It was about how big.
Hyderabad picked up from where they left off in 2024. They almost toppled their own record.
Ishan Kishan took control early and brought up his maiden IPL ton. A hundred that was just clean, uninterrupted hitting.
Around him, everything kept moving. Head, Klaasen, Abhishek and Nitish Kumar Reddy, no one held back long enough for the innings to dip.
And they had 286 for 6, one short of their last years carnage. Even at that number, it felt like there was still something left!
1. SRH: 287/3 vs RCB | 2024
Records don’t always fall in dramatic moments. Sometimes, they get overwhelmed.
RCB once held the highest total in the league. In this game, they saw their record being crushed ruthlessly
Head’s 102 off 41 set the direction. Klaasen followed with 67 off 31. And then came the rest.
Abhishek, Markram and Abdul Samad scored quick runs to put 287 for 3 on the board, the highest-ever team total in the IPL. quick-fire 30s, which propelled SRH to 287, the highest-ever team total in the IPL.
