Who will be India’s captain in the T20 World Cup 2026?

Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead the Men in Blue. This will be his first ICC tournament as captain. Axar Patel will be Surya’s deputy in this campaign.

Wasn’t Gill India’s vice-captain? And what’s the full squad?

Well, Shubman Gill was Surya’s deputy. But his recent poor run in the format meant he lost his place in the T20 World Cup squad.

Ishan Kishan replaced Gill in the squad, thanks to a stellar run in the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Kishan will be a backup opener and wicketkeeper.

Gill’s omission means Sanju Samson will open along with Abhishek Sharma. Surya, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, and Shivam Dube will bat in the middle order.

In a surprising move, Rinku Singh earned a recall in place of Jitesh Sharma. He could provide finishing touches.

Jasprit Bumrah will spearhead India’s pace attack, which also includes Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana. Pandy and Dube will also assist with their seam bowling.

India will also field a strong spin attack comprising Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar.

India’s Squad for the T20 World Cup 2026:

Suryakumar Yadav (c), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel (vc), Washington Sundar, Rinku Singh.
