What is the Super Four Round in Asia Cup 2025? – Explained

Eight teams are set to fight in the Asia Cup 2025 starting September 9. They will first have to navigate through the group stage to get a step closer to the trophy.

Only the top four sides, though, will move ahead in the tournament. They will compete in the Super Four round.

But what exactly is the Super Four round in the Asia Cup 2025?

In simple terms, it’s another group stage. The difference, though, is only four of the eight teams will play in this stage. Hence, the name.

Which teams will qualify for the Super Four round?

The qualification for the Super Four round is quite simple. Teams just need to seal one of the top two places in their respective groups.

Since there are two groups in the Asia Cup 2025, two teams from each group will qualify for the Super Four round. So, there will be a proper tussle among the teams to be in the top two at any cost in the group stage.

How does the Super Four round work?

All four teams will be under one group. So they will play each other once, meaning three matches per side.

And it’s more than playing each other, actually. The Super Four will determine the two finalists of the Asia Cup 2025.

The first and second teams on the Super Four points table will enter the final. Thus, the competition will intensify in this round.

When does the Super Four round start?

The Super Four stage will start on September 20 and run till September 26. A total of six matches will take place in this round – five of them in Dubai and one in Abu Dhabi. After that, we will get the two finalists, who will take on each other on September 28.

Which teams will qualify for the Super Four?

Group A has two clear contenders – India and Pakistan. These two teams will likely have light work to do against Oman and the UAE.

Group B, though, will have tough competition. It’s no less than a group of death, with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka fighting for the two spots. The fourth side, Hong Kong, will look to push hard against these heavyweights.

So it’s difficult to predict which two teams from Group B will proceed to the Super Four. But given Afghanistan’s familiarity with the conditions, they might have an edge over the other sides. And Sri Lanka might breeze through, thanks to their strong bowling attack.
