WPL 2025 Retentions: Players Retained & Released by 5 WPL Teams Ahead of Auction

Days after the IPL 2025 retentions came out, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) teams have also revealed their retentions. This comes on the backdrop of the upcoming auction for WPL 2025.

Since it’s a mini-auction, teams haven’t tinkered much while retaining the core of their squads.

So, let’s look at the players retained and released by all WPL teams ahead of the 2025 auction.

Delhi Capitals (DC): Players Retained for WPL 2025

First up are the runners-up of the first two WPL seasons, Delhi Capitals. The Meg Lanning-led squad has released four players while retaining 14.

They released Aparna Mondal and Ashwani Kumari, both picked in last year’s auction, Poonam Yadav and Laura Harris. Apart from Harris, the others didn’t get any game for DC.

Players Retained: Meg Lanning, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Radha Yadav, Shikha Pandey, Arundhati Reddy, Marizanne Kapp, Jess Jonassen, Alice Capsey, Annabel Sutherland, Taniya Bhatia, Minnu Mani, Sneha Deepthi, Titas Sadhu.

Players Released: Aparna Mondal, Ashwani Kumari, Laura Harris, Poonam Yadav.

Purse Available: INR 2.5 crore

Remaining Slots: Four (One Overseas)

Gujarat Giants (GG): Players Retained for WPL 2025

Gujarat Giants have finished at the bottom in both editions. So they will look to turn around their fortunes.

Speaking of their retentions, GG have kept 14 of their previous squad members while releasing seven players. Three of them are overseas players – Lea Tahuhu, Kathryn Bryce, and Lauren Cheatle – while others are Indians – Sneh Rana, Veda Krishnamurthy, Tarannum Pathan, and Trisha Poojitha. 

Players Retained: Beth Mooney, Ashleigh Gardner, Harleen Deol, Dayalan Hemalatha, Bharti Fulmali, Phoebe Litchfield, Kashvee Gautam, Laura Wolvaardt, Mannat Kashyap, Meghna Singh, Priya Mishra, Sayali Satghare, Shabnam Shakil, Tanuja Kanwer.

Players Released: Lea Tahuhu, Kathryn Bryce, Lauren Cheatle, Sneh Rana, Veda Krishnamurthy, Tarannum Pathan, Trisha Poojitha.

Purse Remaining: INR 4.4 crore

Remaining Slots: Four (Two Overseas)

Mumbai Indians (MI): Players Retained for WPL 2025

The inaugural WPL champions have retained 14 players while letting go of four. Issy Wong, Humaira Kazi, Priyanka Bala, and Fatima Jaffer are among the released players.

The first three players were part of the WPL-winning squad, while they picked up Jaffer in the last auction.

Players Retained: Harmanpreet Kaur, Hayley Matthews, Yastika Bhatia, Amelia Kerr, Natalie Sciver, S. Sajana, Saika Ishaque, Amandeep Kaur, Amanjot Kaur, Pooja Vastrakar, Shabnim Ismail, Chloe Tryon, Jintimani Kalita, Keerthana Balakrishnan.

Players Released: Isabelle Wong, Humairaa Kaazi, Priyanka Bala, Fatima Jaffer.

Purse Remaining: INR 2.65 crore

Remaining Slots: Four (One Overseas)

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB): Players Retained for WPL 2025

Last season’s winners, RCB, let go of seven players while retaining 13 of their champions and traded in one player.

The released players involve England captain Heather Knight and her last year’s replacement, Nadine de Klerk. Apart from that, RCB released five Indian players – Disha Kasat, Shubha Satheesh, Simran Bahadur, Indrani Roy, and Shraddha Pokarkar.

In a significant move, RCB traded in Danni Wyatt-Hodge from UP Warriorz earlier, making it WPL’s first player trade.

Players Retained: Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, Sabbineni Meghana, Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, Shreyanka Patil, Kanika Ahuja, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham, Asha Sobhana, Renuka Singh, Ekta Bisht, Kate Cross.

Players Released: Heather Knight, Nadine de Klerk, Shubha Satheesh, Disha Kasat, Indrani Roy, Simran Bahadur, Shraddha Pokarkar.

Purse Remaining: INR 3.25 crore

Remaining Slots: Four (Zero Overseas)

UP Warriorz (UPW): Players Retained for WPL 2025

Lauren Bell headlines the released players from UP Warriorz. Apart from her, Parshavi Chopra, S. Yashasri, and Laxmi Yadav, who was Uma Chetry’s replacement last season, were let go of by UPW.

Players Released: Alyssa Healy, Chamari Athapaththu, Kiran Navgire, Tahlia McGrath, Deepti Sharma, Grace Harris, Sophie Ecclestone, Uma Chetry, Anjali Sarvani, Gouher Sultana, Poonam Khemnar, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Saima Thakor, Shweta Sehrawat, Vrinda Dinesh.

Players Retained: Lauren Bell, Parshavi Chopra, S. Yashasri, Laxmi Yadav

Purse Remaining: INR 3.90 crore

Remaining Slots: Three (One Overseas)
