List: Indian Batters with Twin Centuries in a Test Match

Scoring a century in a Test match is the ultimate goal for any batter. And to do it twice in a single Test match takes a special effort.

A few batters have pulled off the double for India. Here are the Indian batters to score centuries in both innings of a Test match.

1. Vijay Hazare

Over a dozen batters had achieved this double until 1947. But none were from India.

Then, in early 1948, Vijay Hazare did the unthinkable. He took on a solid Australian attack on their first Down Under tour.

Hazare scored 116 and 145 in the Adelaide Test. But his efforts went in vain as India lost by an innings and 16 runs.

2. Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar was the next Indian to secure the feat in 1971. And he did so in his fourth Test match of his career, that too against the mighty West Indies.

Gavaskar was in sublime touch throughout the series. And he reached the peak in the fifth and final Test of the series. He brought up the scores of 124 and 220 in the Trinidad Test.

If doing it once wasn’t enough, Gavaskar went on to repeat it two more times. The second of his instances came against Pakistan in 1978. He smashed 111 and 137, though India lost the Karachi Test by eight wickets.

The right-hander closed 1978 with his third twin hundreds. The West Indies faced another of his double bouts.

Gavaskar stood firm against a fierce Caribbean bowling attack in Kolkata. He scored 107 in the first innings and had a solid outing in the second with an unbeaten 182-run knock.

Although the Test ended in a draw, Gavaskar’s counterattack in the second innings gave India a much-needed lead.

3. Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid’s love affair with red-ball cricket doesn’t need a special introduction. He is the other Indian with twin centuries in Test cricket.

The first of his twin tons came against New Zealand in January 1999. In the first innings, Dravid fell short of a 200 by 10 runs, while he remained unbeaten on 103 in the second to help draw the match.

And six years later, he achieved the double again. This time against Pakistan in Kolkata. Dravid aggregated 110 and 135 to help India secure a 195-run victory.

4. Virat Kohli

Almost a decade later, Virat Kohli joined the bandwagon. And the fact he did so on his Test captaincy debut made it more remarkable.

Like Hazare, Kohli’s twin hundreds also came against the Aussies in Adelaide. He led from the front to smash 115 and 141. But he couldn’t turn the game in India’s favour.

5. Ajinkya Rahane

A year later, Ajinkya Rahane showed his brilliance. He scored twin centuries on a tough Delhi track.

The right-hand batter amassed 127 and an unbeaten 100. His double attack orchestrated a 337-run victory for India.

6. Rohit Sharma

In about four years, South Africa suffered another double blow. This time by another Mumbai batter, Rohit Sharma.

After being a middle-order batter in his topsy-turvy career, Sharma’s call to open finally came in the 2019 Vizag Test. And what a perfect occasion he chose for his twin centuries.

The right-hand opener showed his love for the opening slot with scores of 176 and 127. Sharma’s masterclass paved the way for another big win.

7. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant is among those few batters who have brought some excitement to Test cricket. His unorthodox shots are enough to keep you on the edge of your seat.

And he did the same against England at Headingley in June 2025. Pant smashed 134 and 118 to become only the second keeper-batter with twin hundreds in a Test.

8. Shubman Gill

A match later, Shubman Gill imitated Pant’s feat. And he did so when India were one down in the five-match series.

Gill put on his captaincy hat to pull up his team. His two knocks in the match – 269 & 161 – combined to give him 430 runs, the second-highest tally by a batter in a Test.
