Indian Players to Win All 3 ICC White Ball Trophies

Representing India in an ICC tournament is a matter of pride for every player. They aim to give their best in the field to bring the silverware home.

India has been a terrific side on the global stage, having tasted success in major ICC events. A handful of players played crucial roles in powering the team to the championship across 3 ICC white ball events — ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy.

Here we’ll look at the list of the Indian players who won all 3 ICC white ball trophies.

Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag was part of the Indian team that won the 2002 Champions Trophy, the 2007 T20 World Cup, and the 2011 ODI World Cup.

The explosive Indian opener was one of the main architects behind making India the joint-winners of the 2002 Champions Trophy. He was the leading run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 271 runs in 5 innings at an astounding average of 90.33.

In the inaugural T20 World Cup, Sehwag scored 133 runs in 5 innings. And the Nawab of Najafgarh started the 2011 ODI World Cup with a bang, hammering 175 against Bangladesh. Sehwag was among the top 10 run-scorers, with 380 runs in 8 innings under his belt.

Yuvraj Singh

Similar to Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh was also part of the 2002 Champions Trophy-winning Indian team. The all-rounder scored 65 runs in 2 innings, including a crucial 62-run knock against South Africa in the semi-final. He also picked up a wicket in 3 innings.

His contribution in the 2007 T20 World Cup is forever etched in history books, especially his riot against England, where he blasted a 12-ball fifty and slammed 6 consecutive sixes. Overall, Yuvi accumulated 148 runs in 5 outings at an astonishing strike rate of 194.73.

The southpaw player put on a once-in-a-lifetime performance in the 2011 ODI World Cup. Yuvraj won the Player of the Tournament award for his all-round performance, scoring 362 runs and taking 15 wickets.

Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh was also on the same team as Sehwag and Yuvraj. The former off-spinner was the third-highest wicket-taker in the 2002 Champions Trophy, with 6 scalps in 5 outings.

In the 2007 T20 World Cup triumph, Harbhajan Singh grabbed 7 wickets in as many matches. He was decent in the 2011 ODI World Cup, picking up 9 wickets in 9 innings, including a match-winning spell of 2 for 43 against Pakistan in the semi-final.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni

MS Dhoni won all 3 major ICC trophies as the captain of the Indian team. He led an inexperienced squad to the 2007 T20 World Cup win. Dhoni was the second-highest run-scorer, garnering 154 runs in 6 innings.

3 years later, Captain Cool ended the ODI World Cup drought, guiding the team to a memorable win at the Wankhede Stadium. MSD scored 241 runs in 8 outings at an average of 48.20, including the 91-run knock in the 2011 ODI World Cup final.

Dhoni didn’t bat much in the 2013 Champions Trophy but was effective as a keeper and skipper. He logged 9 dismissals, taking 5 catches and effecting 4 stumpings. Dhoni’s astute leadership helped India defend a par total in the truncated final.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli featured in an ICC event for the first time in the 2011 ODI World Cup. The top-order batter opened the account with an unbeaten century against Bangladesh and accumulated 282 runs in 9 outings.

Kohli was among the top 5 run-getters in the 2013 Champions Trophy, scoring 176 runs in 5 innings. His unbeaten 58 against Sri Lanka in the semi-final and 43 against England in the final were pivotal in India clinching the Champions Trophy.

The star Indian batter had to wait a decade to lay hands on the T20 World Cup. India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, although Kohli had a quiet stint for most of the campaign.

Opening the innings alongside captain Rohit Sharma, Kohli amassed 151 runs in 8 innings, including the important 76-run knock against South Africa in the final.
