A 19-year-old bowler not only made his debut but also got instant limelight during the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Yes, I am talking about Jasprit Bumrah, one of the greatest bowlers in IPL history.

The right-arm bowler has been a part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) since his debut. He played a crucial role in winning 5 IPL titles for MI. 

Over the years, Bumrah has become a dangerous bowler for every batsman in the IPL. MI has won numerous difficult-to-win matches because of Bumrah’s brilliant bowling spells.

5. 3/32 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore | 2013

This match deserves to be on the list because this is where Bumrah made an impressive entry in the IPL. It was April 4, 2013, when Bumrah made his debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

RCB was batting first, and they lost their first wicket on 3 runs. Then Virat Kohli came to the crease. Bumrah came to bowl in the 5th over, and the 19-year-old dismissed King Kohli for the first time.

As the game progressed further, Boom Boom pulled out Mayank Agrawal and dismissed Karun Nair LBW on zero. Bumrah returned with figures of 3/32. 

Unfortunately, MI lost that game by just 2 runs. But after this match, Bumrah became the irreplaceable cog of MI.

4. 3/7 vs Kolkata Knight Riders | 2017

This was the qualifier 2 match of the 2017 IPL season, played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. It was also the most vital match for KKR and MI, as it would open up the door for them to reach the IPL final.

MI won the toss and elected to field first. Bumrah got his first wicket in the form of opening batter Chris Lynn. Then, in the last over of the powerplay, the right-hand bowler sent Robin Uthappa back to the pavilion.

The game went on, and KKR was at 101 for 8 wickets in the 17th over. At this stage, Bumrah removed Suryakumar Yadav, crushing KKR’s hopes. 

He picked up a total of 3 wickets by giving just 7 runs, and Kolkata were all out at 107. Mumbai grabbed this match easily and went to the finals.

3. 2/14 vs Chennai Super Kings | 2019

Bumrah’s immense bowling spell was on display in the final of the 12th season of the IPL. Mumbai set a 150-run target for CSK. 

Bumrah got his first wicket in the form of Ambati Rayudu, and CSK was at 73/3. Bumrah took another wicket of Dwayne Bravo in the 19th over. The moment Bravo went to the pavilion, the match slipped out of CSK’s hands.

Mumbai etched their name on the IPL title by only one run. Bumrah’s stunning bowling got him the Player of the Match award that night.

2. 4/14 vs Delhi Capitals | 2020

The first qualifier match of IPL 2020 was played between MI and DC. Delhi won the toss and elected to field first. Mumbai scored 200 runs and had an upper edge over the DC.

In response, Delhi lost their first three wickets without scoring a single run. Shikhar Dhawan was one of them, and Bumrah was the one who removed Dhawan. Then, Bumrah took another wicket of DC skipper Shreyas Iyer.

Marcus Stoinis was still going strong for Delhi. He was becoming a threat for Mumbai, but the right-arm pacer stopped him at 65. 2 balls later, Boom Boom took Daniel Sams’s wicket. 

Later, MI won by 57 runs and went to the final. Bumrah’s contribution of 4/14 got him the Player of the Match award.

1. 5/10 vs Kolkata Knight Riders | 2022

Mumbai and Kolkata met in the 56th match of the 15th season of the IPL. MI won the toss and chose to field. 

KKR’s batters were showing their immense batting skills. It seemed like KKR was going to cross the 200-run mark. 

But here, Bumrah dismissed the power hitter, Andre Russell. He then removed Nitish Rana in the same over.

The right-arm bowler came to bowl in the 18th over. He sent back Sheldon Jackson to the pavilion on the first ball. 

Then he scalped Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine on zero. His incredible bowling performance helped MI stop KKR at 165.

Despite his heroic efforts, Mumbai lost the game by 52 runs. But we got to see Bumrah’s stunning bowling spell of 5 for 10 in 4 overs. And he once again got the Player of the Match award.
