2009 | Claire Taylor
Claire Taylor was instrumental in England winning the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup at their home. She was England’s leading run-scorer in the 2009 edition, with 199 runs in 4 innings.
Taylor’s run tally included 2 superb unbeaten fifties against Sri Lanka (75*) and Australia (76*), both of which came at a strike rate of above 138. She also top-scored in the final against New Zealand, scoring 39 not out to take England over the ropes.
For her exceptional batting performance, Claire Taylor won the inaugural Player of the Tournament award.
2010 | Nicola Browne
Nicola Browne was the reason behind New Zealand making it to consecutive Women’s T20 World Cup finals. She picked up 9 wickets and scored valuable 79 runs in the middle order.
Browne’s best bowling performance came against Pakistan, as she racked up 4 wickets for 15 runs. She ended up as the joint leading wicket-taker in the 2010 edition, but her team couldn’t taste the success.
Nonetheless, Browne bagged the Player of the Tournament award for her standout performances.
2012 | Charlotte Edwards
Charlotte Edwards led England from the front in the 2012 iteration. She was their leading run-scorer, with 172 runs in 5 innings.
Edwards’ best batting performance came against as she scored an unbeaten 50 to guide her team to chase down a 117-run target. She failed to guide her team to win the final against Australia. But she earned the POTT award for her consistent run in the tournament.
2014 | Anya Shrubsole
Anya Shrubsole became the third England player to bag the POTT accolade. The right-hand seamer was the leading wicket-taker of the 2014 edition.
Shrubsole grabbed 13 wickets at an average of just 7.53 in 6 matches. She picked up 2 three-wicket hauls against India (3/6) and Sri Lanka (3/9), bagging Player of the Match awards.
2016 | Stafanie Taylor
Stafanie Taylor is one of the few players who has featured in all Women’s T20 World Cup editions from 2009 to 2024. The West Indian all-rounder propelled her team to their maiden T20 World Cup triumph in 2016 with her all-round and leadership skills.
Taylor amassed 246 runs at an average of 41 in 6 matches. With the ball, she took 8 wickets, with her best performance of 3 for 13 coming against Bangladesh.
Taylor kept her best batting performance reserved for the final clash against Australia. She scored a match-winning 59 to help the West Indies chase 149 runs.
2018 | Alyssa Healy
Alyssa Healy’s consistent returns with the bat in the 2018 edition saw her win the Player of the Tournament award. Her brilliant batting performances also handed Australia their fourth World Cup title.
Healy amassed 225 runs at an impressive average of 56.25 in 6 matches. She scored 2 fifties, with an unbeaten 56 against Ireland being her best score.
Healy was also exceptional with her glovework behind the stumps, taking 4 catches and making as many stumpings.
2020 | Beth Mooney
Beth Mooney shone bright with the bat as the 2020 edition took place in her home country. The right-hander accumulated 259 runs at an impeccable average of 64.75 in 6 matches.
Mooney had a rough start to her campaign. But she recovered soon and slammed an impressive 81 not out against Bangladesh, which was also her best score.
She then scored 2 more fifties — 60 versus New Zealand and an unbeaten 78 in the final against India to take Australia home.
2023 | Ashleigh Gardner
Ashleigh Gardner became the third Australian in a row to win the POTT award. The all-rounder displayed her all-round skills in the 2023 edition.
Gardner started off her campaign with a five-wicket haul against New Zealand, wrapping up the opposition for 76 runs. She continued with her brilliant performances, along with scoring valuable runs in the middle order.
Gardner finished the 2023 edition with 10 wickets and 110 runs, helping Australia win their sixth World Cup trophy.
2024 | Amelia Kerr
Amelia Kerr propelled New Zealand to their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title in the 2024 edition. She was a vital cog in the White Ferns squad throughout their victorious campaign.
Kerr chipped in with the bat scoring 135 runs in 6 innings. The all-rounder’s leg spin brought her 15 wickets, making her the leading wicket-taker of the edition. This helped her bag the POTT award in 2024.
Kerr also won the Player of the Match award in the final, as she scored a crucial 43-run knock and picked up three wickets.
