Shikhar Dhawan’s 6 Incredible Records in Cricket

On August 24, 2024, Shikhar Dhawan bowed out of international and domestic cricket. After not finding himself in the scheme of things of the Indian team, Dhawan decided to call time on his impressive career.

The left-hander was one of the best openers, especially in limited-overs cricket, providing blazing starts for India and his IPL teams. Banking on his audacious strokeplay, Dhawan scored heaps of runs and bagged notable records on the way.

Here, we’ll look at Shikhar Dhawan’s 6 incredible records in cricket.

Highest Individual Score on Test Debut for India

Shikhar Dhawan announced himself in style in Test cricket. Opening in his first Test innings, the southpaw batter blazed his way to 187 runs off 174 balls — the highest score on Test debut for India.

His exemplary knock came in the third Test match against Australia in 2013. Dhawan scored his maiden Test hundred at a strike rate of 107 and hammered 33 fours and 2 sixes.

Fastest Century on Test Debut

Dhawan brought up his maiden Test ton in a mere 85 balls, making it the fastest century on Test debut. He became only the first Indian and overall the second batter to score a century on Test debut in fewer than 100 balls.

50+ Average and 90+ Strike Rate in ICC ODI Tournaments

Shikhar Dhawan is the only batter to have scored runs at an average of 50+ and a strike rate of 90+ in both the ODI World Cup (WC) and Champions Trophy (CT).

The former Indian opener accumulated 537 runs in 10 matches across the 2015 and 2019 WC editions at an average of 53.70 and a strike rate of 94.21.

Likewise, he scored 701 runs in 10 matches across the 2013 and 2017 CT editions at an average of 77.88 and a strike rate of 101.59.

Scored a Century in his 100th ODI Match

On February 10, 2018, Shikhar Dhawan played his 100th ODI match. And he made it a memorable outing by scoring 109 runs in 105 balls.

With that, the left-hander became only the first Indian and overall the ninth batter to score a hundred in the 100th ODI match.
