Scored a Century on Test Debut
Sourav Ganguly made his Test debut for India against England on June 20, 1996, and announced himself in style.
Coming to bat at No. 3 in the second innings, the left-hander scored a brilliant 131-run knock, helping India take a crucial lead. With that, he became the 10th Indian batter to score a century on Test debut.
Third-Most Successful Indian Test and ODI Captain
Ganguly led India between 1999 and 2005, bringing a complete revolution in Indian cricket under his leadership.
He became the first Indian skipper to register 20 wins in Tests. In all, the Prince of Kolkata led India in 49 Tests, winning 21 of them, which makes him the third-most successful Indian Test captain.
Ganguly also had a stellar captaincy record in ODIs, winning 76 out of the 146 games, making him the third-most successful Indian ODI captain.
Second-Most ODI Runs in a Calendar Year
