Captains of 10 Teams in Women’s T20 World Cup 2024

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to get underway on October 3, 2024, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). 10 teams are ready to clinch the trophy with their skippers leading them towards the ultimate goal.

So, it’s time to look at the captains of all 10 teams in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Australia | Alyssa Healy

Australia will be without their most celebrated captain, Meg Lanning, in an ICC event for the first time in a decade. After Lanning retired from international cricket, wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy has taken over the reins.

Healy doesn’t have vast experience in leading Australia on the international stage. But she knows her job well and will look to defend their title this year.

Bangladesh | Nigar Sultana Joty

The tournament host, Bangladesh, will be led by Nigar Sultana Joty. It would have been a proud moment for Nigar to lead her side on the home soil had the World Cup not shifted to the UAE.

Nevertheless, she will be determined to take Bangladesh towards a major ICC title victory for the first time. Nigar has led Bangladesh in 47 matches thus far, with 18 wins out of them.

England | Heather Knight

Heather Knight has been at the helm of England for a long time, having led them in previous 3 Women’s T20 World Cup editions.

In her 4th stint, Knight will look to add some significant wins and help England win their second T20 World Cup title. She has 65 wins in 86 matches in overall T20Is, while 10 wins in 14 World Cup games.

India | Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur will also lead India in her 4th T20 World Cup as a captain. She is the most experienced skipper among her counterparts, with over 68 wins in 118 T20Is.

Harman and her squad must be pumped up after India men’s T20 World Cup victory earlier this year. So she will aim to make it double in the UAE.

New Zealand | Sophie Devine

Sophie Devine will lead the White Ferns for one last time in this year’s competition. The all-rounder will step down as New Zealand’s captain in T20I cricket.

But before Devine hands over her charge, she would like to make it memorable by adding the silverware to the trophy cabinet. Thus far, she has 25 victories in 58 T20I matches as a skipper.

Pakistan | Fatima Sana

Pakistan have appointed Fatima Sana as their captain for the 2024 edition. Sana has only led Pakistan in 3 T20Is, with a sole win under her belt.

There will be a lot of expectations from her to change the fortunes of Pakistan at the T20 World Cup.

Scotland | Kathryn Bryce

It will be a historic moment for Scotland’s women’s team as they mark their first appearance in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Kathryn Bryce will stride out as Scotland’s skipper, with her sister and wicketkeeper, Sarah, being her deputy.

Kathryn has led the Scottish team in 45 T20I games, with 27 wins to her name as captain. They may not be the favourites to win the whole thing, but the all-rounder will guide her team to make some upsets.

South Africa | Laura Wolvaardt

Last edition’s runner-up, South Africa, will have Laura Wolvaardt lead their team this time around.

In her maiden stint, Wolvaardt will look to repeat South Africa’s performance from the last edition and top it off with the title victory. The opening batter has led the Proteas women to 7 wins in 19 T20Is so far.

Sri Lanka | Chamari Athapaththu

Sri Lanka will have the services of veteran Chamari Athapaththu as their skipper. After leading Sri Lanka to the Women’s Asia Cup victory a few months ago, Chamari will guide her side to claim the bigger prize.

Chamari has been around for quite some time, leading Sri Lanka in close to 100 games. This will be her 9th T20 World Cup as a player and 5th as a captain.

West Indies | Hayley Matthews

Hayley Matthews will lead the West Indies in the consecutive T20 World Cup editions. In the last iteration, she forked out 2 wins out of 4 games.

Matthews will look to turn around the West Indies’ performance while leading from the front. Thus far, the all-rounder has won 14 games out of 35 T20Is.
