WPL 2025 Auction: Everything You Need to Know

Last month we witnessed a thrilling IPL 2025 auction. Now it’s time for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 player mini-auction.

The WPL will return for its third season in early 2025. But before that, the five teams have a few plugs to fill in the upcoming WPL mini-auction.

Teams revealed their retained and released players a month ago by keeping their core intact. Now teams will look to complete their squads before the third season.

As we inch closer to the WPL 2025 auction, here’s everything you need to know.

When and where will the WPL 2025 auction take place?

The BCCI announced the date and venue for the event. The WPL 2025 auction will take place on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Unlike the IPL auction, this event will happen in India, with Bengaluru chosen as the venue.

How many players are in the WPL 2025 auction?

On December 7, the WPL committee announced the final list of players for the mini-auction. After the registrations closed on December 4, 120 women’s players have made the final cut.

Out of those, 91 are Indian players, with 82 being uncapped, while 29 are overseas, with three coming from associate nations.

How much is the auction purse available with WPL teams?

The WPL teams will have an increased purse to spend money in the mini-auction. Their auction purse has gone up to INR 15 crore from INR 13.50 crore.

After the increment, Gujarat Giants (GG) will go with the highest purse of INR 4.40 crore. Delhi Capitals (DC), on the other hand, have the smallest purse, with INR 2.50 crore to spend in the WPL 2025 auction.

How many slots are empty?

A total of 19 empty slots are available across the five franchises. DC, GG, MI, and RCB have four vacant slots each to fill in, while UPW have three. Except for the defending champions, RCB, the other teams combined have five overseas slots open, with the Giants having two.

How many players can each WPL team have in the squad?

The WPL teams can build a squad of a maximum of 19 players. Out of those, a maximum of six can be overseas cricketers, though teams can have a seventh foreign player from an associate nation.

Is there any RTM card available?

Thus far, the Right-to-Match (RTM) card hasn’t made its presence in WPL auctions. So the RTM card won’t be available in this auction either.

Where to watch the WPL 2025 auction?

The WPL’s official broadcaster, Sports18 Network, will telecast the WPL 2025 auction live on their TV channels. The league’s official streaming partner, JioCinema, will live stream the event on their OTT platform.
