The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is nothing short of a carnival in the Caribbean Islands. The top West Indies cricketers, along with global stars, assemble here to display their T20 skills.
Seven teams studded with T20 superstars go head-on against each other to become the champions.

2013 | Jamaica Tallawahs
The top two teams of the inaugural season, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs, made it to the final.
The Tallawahs captain Chris Gayle won the toss and asked the Warriors to bat first. Their disciplined bowling attack restricted the Warriors to 128 for 5.
In response, Gayle led the charge, scoring an unbeaten 47, with Andre Russell (33 off 18) providing late fireworks to finish the chase. Tallawahs won by seven wickets to seal their first CPL trophy.
2014 | Barbados Tridents
Guyana Amazon Warriors reached their second successive final and faced the table-toppers, Barbados Tridents.
This time, the Warriors won the toss and put the Tridents into bat first. Despite two early jolts, the Tridents put up 152 runs on the board, thanks to crucial fifties from Dwayne Smith (59) and Shoaib Malik (55*).
While chasing the target, the Warriors were cruising towards the target, but rain played spoilsport. Rain interrupted the game with 45 runs required from 25 balls.
Finally, the match was called off with the Warriors being eight runs behind the par score according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. So the Tridents lifted their first CPL title.
2015 | Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel
Defending champions Barbados Tridents faced off against Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel (now Trinbago Knight Riders) in the final of the third season.
After electing to bat first, the Red Steel posted 178 runs on the board, with Camron Delport (50) and Kamran Akmal (60) smashing fifties and captain Dwayne Bravo (29) providing the late finish.
The Tridents got a good start in the chase and were in control till the halfway mark. But the Red Steel bowlers put a break on the Tridents’ run-scoring, restricting them to 158 for 4.
The Red Steel snapped up the win by 20 runs and claimed their first CPL trophy.
2016 | Jamaica Tallawahs
The 2016 final was a repeat of the inaugural season’s final, with Jamaica Tallawahs and Guyana Amazon Warriors taking on each other. The result wasn’t much different as the Tallawahs ran away with their second title.
Captain Chris Gayle again made the right call and put the Warriors to bat first. The Tallawahs bowlers proved their captain’s call right by wrapping up the Warriors for a paltry score of 93 runs.
It was a buttery smooth chase for the Tallawahs, as Gayle smashed 54 off 27 to seal the match in 13 overs.

2017 | Trinbago Knight Riders
The 2017 season witnessed a nail-biting final between Trinbago Knight Riders and St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
After being put in to bat first, the Patriots mustered 135 runs in the first innings. The Knight Riders also struggled in the chase, losing wickets at regular intervals.
But Kevon Cooper’s all-round performance, first with the ball, taking 2 for 12, and then with the bat, scoring a match-winning 29 off 14, helped the Knight Riders win the match with three wickets to spare.
2018 | Trinbago Knight Riders
The Knight Riders continued their successful run in the 2018 edition, defending the title against Guyana Amazon Warriors. It was the fourth final for the Warriors, but this time as well the result didn’t go their way.
The Warriors posted a good total of 147 runs in 20 overs. The Knight Riders’ openers provided a good start, with Colin Munro further making inroads with his blasting knock.
Munro’s unbeaten 68 off 39 handed the Knight Riders their third CPL trophy.
2019 | Barbados Tridents
Guyana Amazon Warriors’ bad luck continued in the 2019 iteration as Barbados Tridents swept them away in the final.
The Tridents batted first and posted a challenging total of 171 runs, with Jonathan Carter (50 off 27) lighting up the effort while coming at No. 7.
The Warriors kept losing wickets at regular intervals in the chase, pushing them away from the trophy. They could reach 144 runs in 20 overs, resulting in the Tridents winning their second trophy in the CPL.
2020 | Trinbago Knight Riders
Saint Lucia Zouks (now Saint Lucia Kings) were up against three-time champions Trinbago Knight Riders in the summit clash. Zouks mustered a decent 154 on the board, with the lower middle order failing to put up a fight.
The Knight Riders had a rough start in the chase, losing two wickets within four overs. But that didn’t deter the Caribbean duo of Lendl Simmons and Darren Bravo, who slammed bowlers for boundaries.
Their solid 138-run unbeaten partnership helped the Knight Riders lay their hands on the trophy for the fourth time.

2021 | St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots
The Patriots came close to winning the CPL title in 2017 but fell short of it. But they turned the tables in 2021 against Saint Lucia Kings, the runner-up of the last season.
Batting first, the Kings posted 159 runs on the board, with Rahkeem Cornwall, Roston Chase and Keemo Paul chipping in crucial contributions.
It was an edge-of-a-seat thriller, with the Patriots closing in the chase on the last ball to bag their maiden CPL title. Dominic Drakes starred for the Patriots, scoring a match-winning 48 not out.
2022 | Jamaica Tallawahs
Jamaica Tallawahs made it to the final after a long time and sealed their third trophy. They thrashed Barbados Royals in the summit clash of the 2022 CPL season.
The Royals elected to bat first and scored 161 runs in 20 overs. The Tallawahs’ top-order batters made the target look small with their bashing.
Brandon King’s unbeaten 80 off 50 and Shamarh Brooks’ 47 off 33 helped the Tallawahs to ace the chase in 16.1 overs.
2023 | Guyana Amazon Warriors
The silverware eluded Guyana Amazon Warriors for a decade. But they finally grabbed the trophy in 2023 by defeating CPL’s most successful team, Trinbago Knight Riders.
In a one-sided affair, the Warriors bundled out the Knight Riders for a mere 94 runs, with Dwaine Pretorius taking four wickets. The target wasn’t big, and the Warriors shut the chase in 14 overs.
2024 | Saint Lucia Kings
Guyana Amazon Warriors were out at their home ground to defend the title against Saint Lucia Kings in the 2024 season final.
But after being asked to bat first, the Warriors could muster 138 runs in 20 overs, as batters failed to put up big scores. The Kings’ Noor Ahmad bagged three crucial wickets.
In reply, the Kings were also in trouble at 51 for 4, but Roston Chase (39 off 22) and Aaron Jones (48 off 31) took their side home. Saint Lucia Kings won by six wickets and lifted their first-ever CPL trophy.
2025 | Trinbago Knight Riders
The 2025 season put Trinbago Knight Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors against each other for the third time in a CPL final. Going into the final, both teams had a 1-1 head-to-head record, with both trying to go past each other.
This one was another low-scoring affair. The Warriors elected to bat first, but managed only 130 for 8.
The target wasn’t big, but the Knight Riders had a tough time in the chase. They were 116 for 7 in 16.2 overs. But then Akeal Hosein’s calculated knock saw them through for the fifth title.
2026 | Antigua and Barbuda Falcons
A Jamaica-based franchise qualified for the CPL final after three seasons. The Kingsmen, on their debut, met Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, who also qualified for their maiden final.
Maaz Sadaqat’s lone warrior knock of 114 took the Kingsmen to 170 for 9. It seemed like a decent total until the Falcons’ top order turned up collectively.
The Falcons chased down the target in 16.4 overs to lift their maiden title in just their third appearance.2) and Aaron Jones (48 off 31) took their side home. Saint Lucia Kings won the match by 6 wickets and lifted their first-ever CPL trophy.
