The Indian Premier League (IPL) will resume with a fresh new season in 2025. The T20 league will get underway on March 22. And everyone will have their eyes set on the big screens to watch a spicy battle between bat and ball.
Batters have taken the IPL by storm in the last couple of seasons. With conditions in their favour, they are smashing the ball to almost every corner of the ground.
This helps them stay in the race to claim the Orange Cap. And this season won’t be any different.
As the IPL 2025 approaches quickly, here’s our prediction on the top 5 run-scorers this season.
Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill is a star in the making in the IPL. And his consistent run-scoring is helping him reach the top level.
Now, it’s true that he had an okay-ish outing last season. But it’s quite likely that Gill will roar back in IPL 2025.
The right-hander finished the 2024 season with 426 runs in 12 matches. A season before that, Gill netted 890 runs in 17 innings to win the Orange Cap for the first time.
And now, going into the 18th season, Gill seems to be in good touch. Thus, we can expect him to be among the top five run-scorers in IPL 2025 and hopefully clinch the Orange Cap.
Virat Kohli
You can’t ignore Virat Kohli when it comes to scoring runs in the IPL. It should be illegal to undermine the abilities of the star Indian batter.
Kohli is an IPL legend already, thanks to his impeccable run tally, which places him at the top. Barring his first two seasons, the right-hander has accumulated 300-plus runs in every edition.
Kohli was even the top run-scorer in 2016 and most recently in the last season. He smashed a record 973 runs in 2016, while he added 741 in 2024 to win the Orange Cap both times.
Kohli’s form has been a concern of late, but he seems to have found his mojo in the recently concluded Champions Trophy. And Kohli would like to transfer the same in the upcoming IPL season.

Travis Head
Travis Head made bowlers’ lives hell last season. And he seems to be more than ready to repeat it in 2025.
The Australian batter returned to the IPL after seven years and put up a fine display of aggressive batting. Head hammered 567 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of 191.55 last season.
Given his recent form, the left-hand opener is likely to continue his carnage in the IPL 2025. And it’s not a good sign for the bowlers.
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad scored the second-most runs last season. Despite the additional captaincy responsibility, he didn’t let it affect his batting. He ended up with 583 runs in 14 innings.
Gaikwad will be at the helm of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for yet another season. And he will play a crucial role with the bat as CSK look to rebound.
Gaikwad’s level-headedness will help him negotiate the best of the bowling attacks, which was on display in 2021 when he bagged the Orange Cap. As CSK hunt for their sixth title, you can expect Gaikwad to repeat the 2021 season performance.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal is one batter you should look for in IPL 2025. The young opener has cemented his place in Rajasthan Royals (RR) setup. And now he is looking to go up the ladder with his fearless run-making.
Jaiswal had a breakout season in 2023, as he scored 625 runs in 14 matches, which included his maiden IPL hundred. The left-hander followed it up with 435 runs in 15 innings in 2024.
His last season’s performance was slightly below expectations, but he will look to overcome that with a stellar outing this year.
