Shubman Gill is slowly establishing himself as India’s all-format superstar. He has been scoring runs at an impressive rate in all formats.
But what makes his batting stand out is his elegant strokes. Some of his shots are like staples, which he uses almost regularly while batting on the crease.
So, here’s a look at Shubman Gill’s go-to shots in cricket.
Pull Shot
This is one of Gill’s favourite shots. He executes some of the most controlled pull shots.
Gill waits for the right length, gets on top of the ball, and pulls it along the ground with full force. He also goes aerial, fetching massive sixes (like the one below).
Cover Drive
Gill plays some glorious cover drives. You bowl him an overpitched outside-the-off delivery, and he deals with a crisp cover drive.
He keeps his bat straight with his head steady and elbow high to execute an effortless drive through the covers. This shows his grasp of the classic textbook shots.

Straight Drive
Another drive Gill loves to play – the straight drive. It’s a simple shot he executes with pure technique.
He guides the ball with a full face of the bat and a solid front foot. He relies more on timing and balance than on overhitting the ball.
Flick Shot
Gill has strong wrists, which help him play effortless flick shots. If a bowler strays onto his pads, he flicks the balls towards the midwicket or square leg.
Gill doesn’t put a lot of power behind his flicks. Despite that, the ball races towards the boundary with ease. So you miss the length, and he encashes immediately!
Cut Shot
If you give Gill some width outside off stump, he cuts the ball between point and cover. If there’s pace on offer, he doesn’t even need to put a lot of effort behind the shot.
Gill uses the cut shot smartly against the pacers and spinners. And since he has complete control over the shot, it makes it a safer option to score runs.
