List: Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Team Owners

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is one of the most entertaining T20 leagues. It has the Caribbean vibe, which takes the experience to another level.

And then there are the Caribbean and overseas players, who lit up the league with their solid performances. They represent six different franchises, based out of six Caribbean islands.

But who are the owners of the CPL teams?

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons

Team Owner: Krishna Persaud (Worldwide Sports Management Group)

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons is a relatively new franchise in the CPL. But it’s owned by an old CPL team owner – The Worldwide Sports Management Group.

The group previously operated Jamaica Tallawahs till 2023. But they shifted their base to Antigua and Barbuda in 2024.

The reason? The Jamaican government’s reluctance to support cricket.

So, Krishna Persaud, owner of the group, sold the Jamaica franchise and instead established a new one in Antigua and Barbuda.

His group has a long association with cricket. They promote and manage cricket events in Florida, where Persaud is based.

Barbados Royals

Team Owners: Royals Sports Group & CMG Companies

Barbados Royals have an Indian Premier League (IPL) connection. What connection? 

It’s owned by the Royal Sports Group, owners of Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Manoj Badale, head of the group, bought a major ownership share from CMG Companies in the Barbados franchise in 2021. Now, CMG Companies are minority shareholders.

The Royals have extended their association with Caribbean cricket by operating a women’s CPL team. The group also owns a team in SA20 – Paarl Royals.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

Team Owner: Ranjisinghi Ramroop (New GPC Inc.)

Guyana Amazon Warriors is the only CPL franchise to feature in the league since its inauguration in 2013. And guess what?

It’s owned by an Indian-origin businessman, Ranjisinghi Ramroop. He operates the Guyana-based franchise under his company, New GPC Inc. The company is into manufacturing and supplying pharmaceutical products. 

Ramroop also owns a TV broadcast company and a newspaper company in Guyana. And he operates businesses in many other fields.

The Amazon Warriors have a sister franchise in the Women’s CPL under the same name.



St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

Team Owner: Mahesh Ramani (Winning Willows Ltd)

Another CPL franchise, another Indian connection. An Indian-origin businessman owns the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Mahesh Ramani owns the franchise through his company Winning Willows Ltd. He bought the team in 2019. He operates many businesses.

Saint Lucia Kings

Team Owner: KPH Dream Cricket Pvt Ltd

This is another CPL franchise owned by an IPL team owner. But can you guess the IPL team?

It’s Punjab Kings (PBKS). The PBKS owners, KPH Dream Cricket Pvt Ltd, manage the Saint Lucia Kings.

The consortium ventured into the CPL in 2021 with the acquisition of the Saint Lucia Zouks franchise. They took over the franchise from Royal Sports Club, LLC, and renamed it Saint Lucia Kings.

The consortium has prominent partners like Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman and Karan Paul.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Team Owner: Knight Riders Sports Pvt Ltd

The Knight Riders. Sounds familiar, right?

Well, you must’ve come across the Knight Riders in the IPL. Yes, we are talking about Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)!

The owners of KKR manage this Trinidad and Tobago-based CPL team. And do you know who the owners of KKR are? 

The Knight Riders Sports Pvt Ltd. It’s a joint venture between Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainments and Jay Mehta’s Mehta Group. 

The company acquired a majority share in Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel franchise in 2015. A year later, they renamed the team as Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR).

The Knight Riders Sports Pvt Ltd also operates a team in the Women’s CPL under the same name. They have a presence in the ILT20 (Abu Dhabi Knight Riders) and MLC (Los Angeles Knight Riders) as well.
