Europe’s first major T20 league is up and running. The 2026 European T20 Premier League (ETPL) promises some exciting cricket action. And at the center of it all will be the captains of all ETPL teams.
So here’s a look at the captains leading the teams in the inaugural ETPL season. (You can check out the ETPL team owners here.)
Amsterdam Flames | Scott Edwards
Amsterdam Flames have handed over the captaincy reins to experienced Scott Edwards.
While Mitchell Marsh was supposed to lead them initially, his late pullout meant Edwards now captains them.
Edwards has extensive captaincy experience, having led the Netherlands in over 100 international games. So the Flames will bank on him to guide them to the title.
Belfast Wolves | Glenn Maxwell
Belfast Wolves have appointed Glenn Maxwell as their captain. Notably, he is also their co-owner.
Maxwell has considerable captaincy experience, having led teams in the BBL, IPL and MLC. Plus, his ability to come clutch in pressure situations will come in handy while leading the Wolves.
Dublin Guardians | Ravichandran Ashwin
Dublin Guardians have entrusted Ravichandran Ashwin with the captaincy duty. He is also the team mentor.
While Ashwin’s leadership experience is brief, few read the situation as well as he does. So his street smartness will decide the Guardians’ fate in the inaugural ETPL season.

Edinburgh Castle Rockers | Mitchell Santner
Edinburgh Castle Rockers have banked on an experienced skipper in Mitchell Santner.
While Santner has led New Zealand, this is his first captaincy stint in franchise T20 cricket. So it will be interesting to see how the Kiwi performs in a more competitive environment.
Glasgow Cosmic | George Munsey
Glasgow Cosmic are the other franchise to appoint a local player as captain. George Munsey has been a reliable batter for Scotland.
He will hope to bring the same reliability to his maiden captaincy stint in professional T20 cricket.
Rotterdam Dockers | Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis rounds up the captains for the ETPL 2026. He is set to lead Rotterdam Dockers.
The former South African skipper is one of the co-owners of the franchise. Du Plessis has plenty of captaincy experience in franchise T20 cricket. And he has also tasted success in major T20 leagues.
