After much back and forth, Europe is set to launch its own T20 league. The inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL) will take place in August-September 2026.
So here’s all you need to know about the European T20 Premier League 2026.
Tell us about the ETPL…
So three European cricket boards have come together to launch the ETPL. And they are Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association (the Netherlands).
The ETPL also has an India connection. Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan is one of the co-investors in the league. He has partnered with Saurav Banerjee, Priyanka Kaul and Dhiraj Malhotra through Rules Global.
Well, before Bachchan came on board, there were plans to launch Euro T20 Slam somewhere around 2019. But organisational issues and COVID-19 delayed the plans.
It was only in January 2025 that the league regained momentum. Cricket Ireland and Rules Global announced to jointly start the ETPL. And it was even marked to start in July 2025. But those plans also fell through, with the league postponed for another year.
Now, finally, the ETPL is up and going in grand fashion. And it hopes to drive cricket’s growth in Europe.
Most notably, the ETPL is the first-of-its-kind cross-border T20 league in the world.
Alright, when does the ETPL 2026 start?
The first edition of the ETPL begins on August 26, 2026. Rotterdam Dockers will take on Amsterdam Flames in the season opener in Voorburg at 3:15 PM local time (6:45 PM IST).
How many teams are in the ETPL 2026?
It’s a six-team league, representing cities from the three countries. Each country has two teams.
Rotterdam Dockers and Amsterdam Flames are from the Netherlands. Belfast Wolves and Dublin Guardians are from Ireland. Edinburgh Castle Rockers and Glasgow Cosmic are from Scotland.
What’s the format of the ETPL 2026?
Like most popular T20 leagues, the ETPL also follows a double round-robin league stage, followed by knockouts.
So teams will face each other twice in the league stage, playing 10 games. The table-toppers will gain a direct slot in the final, while the second- and third-placed teams will lock horns in the qualifier for the other slot.
The qualifier winner will then take on the table-topper in the season final.
How many matches will take place in the ETPL 2026?
The inaugural edition will see 32 matches in total. 30 of those matches are part of the league stage.
Which venues will host the ETPL 2026?
The ETPL 2026 will span across two venues in the Netherlands and Ireland. Voorburg and Dublin will share the hosting duties.
Voorburg, located in the Netherlands, will host 17 league stage games. Ireland’s Dublin, meanwhile, will stage 15 matches, including the qualifier and the final.

What’s the complete schedule for the ETPL 2026?
So the inaugural ETPL edition will take place in two legs. The first leg runs from August 26 to September 6 in Voorburg. A total of 17 matches will take place.
Then, after a two-day break, the action will resume in Dublin for the remaining 13 league stage games till September 17. The qualifier and the final will take place on September 19 and 20.

Is the ETPL 2026 clashing with other leagues?
Yes. The ETPL 2026 runs parallel to the CPL 2026, which started on August 7 and ends on September 20. So the West Indies are unlikely to feature in the ETPL this time.

Plenty of big names, actually. Players like Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Mitchell Santner, Trent Boult, Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, Faf du Plessis, Heinrich Klaasen and Ravichandran Ashwin will be in action.
