List: All Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Captains in IPL History

After Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made their IPL debut in 2022, they took giant strides. Consecutive playoff qualification in the first two seasons is no mean feat.

And it boils down to the good leaders they have had at their service. Their tactical acumen has made the difference in how the whole unit performs.

Through this article, we’ll list all the LSG captains in IPL history. (Note: Players with five or more matches as captain are considered.)

1. KL Rahul | 2022-2024

KL Rahul first had a crack at captaincy in the IPL with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2020 and 2021. But things didn’t quite work as he would have loved to.

So he left PBKS to join the newcomers LSG in 2022. Rahul started afresh to take the Super Giants to consecutive playoffs.

His calm and composed captaincy style benefited LSG. And the fact that he led from the front with the bat was the icing on the cake.

But as all good things come to an end, LSG had a mixed season in 2024. In between, things seemed off between Rahul and the team’s owner, which meant he left the franchise after the 2024 edition.

In all, Rahul captained LSG in 37 matches across three editions and won 20 of them to have a win percentage of 54.05.

2. Krunal Pandya | 2023-2023

Although Krunal Pandya wasn’t LSG’s full-time captain, he filled in for injured Rahul in 2023. He took up the mantle in mid-season with Rahul getting sidelined.

Pandya carried forward Rahul’s good work and made sure LSG qualified for the playoffs. His bold leadership saw LSG win three of the six games he captained in.

3. Rishabh Pant | 2025-Present

After Rahul’s departure, Lucknow needed a new captain. Nicholas Pooran was a potential option. But LSG went with a more experienced option – Rishabh Pant.

The franchise had spent INR 27 crore to buy Pant in the 2025 auction! That exorbitant deal almost sealed his name for the captaincy duty.

Pant brought in an experience of 43 matches as skipper in the IPL. He was at the helm of Delhi Capitals (DC) for three seasons between 2021 and 2024. Except for 2021, nothing significant happened in 2022 and 2024.

Pant guided DC to a Qualifier 2 finish in the 2021 season after topping the points table with 10 wins. As Delhi’s skipper, Pant won 23 games.

Now it will be interesting to see how many wins he adds as LSG’s captain in the IPL.
