The third season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will commence on February 14, 2025. The WPL 2025 promises to be a thrilling season, with all teams vying for the ultimate prize.
Just like the captains are crucial in a team’s successful campaign, the head coaches also play an equal role. And keeping this in mind, all WPL teams are not compromising on their backroom staff.
Here you can look at the head coaches of all teams in the WPL 2025 season.
Delhi Capitals | Jonathan Batty
After taking Delhi Capitals (DC) to back-to-back finals, Jonathan Batty has secured his head coach position. Batty and DC captain Meg Lanning have paired up quite well, which has reflected in the team’s overall performance.
The only thing that eludes the coach-captain duo is the WPL trophy. In the last two seasons, DC have fallen short of clinching the title by a whisker. This season, though, Batty would draw some foolproof strategies to get the job done.
DC WPL Support Staff: Hemlata Kala (assistant coach), Lisa Keightley (assistant coach), Biju George (fielding coach)
Gujarat Giants | Michael Klinger
Despite an underwhelming outing last year, Gujarat Giants (GG) have retained the services of Michael Klinger. The former Australian batter will continue in the head coach role for another year.
Having brought in last season, Klinger couldn’t do much of a note, mentoring GG to only two wins. The franchise will hope the coach turns the fortunes this time around while overhauling the rest of the support staff.
The Giants have added Daniel Marsh as the new batting coach, while Pravin Tambe will be their bowling coach. Marsh is currently serving as the Australian women’s team’s assistant coach. And Tambe has been working with Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL as a spin-bowling coach.
GG WPL Support Staff: Daniel Marsh (batting coach), Pravin Tambe (bowling coach)
Mumbai Indians | Charlotte Edwards
Mumbai Indians have been a consistent force in WPL. And their head coach Charlotte Edwards has played a pivotal role in this.
The former England skipper has brought in valuable experience of coaching teams in other tournaments. And MI have benefitted from it, winning the inaugural edition and qualifying for the Eliminator last season.
Edwards has been instrumental in building a formidable squad, which is almost impossible to beat in this competition.
MI WPL Support Staff: Jhulan Goswami (bowling coach/mentor), Devika Palshikar (batting coach), Nicole Bolton (fielding coach), Stacey-Lee Hercules (strength & conditioning coach)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Luke Williams
After being handed over the reins ahead of the 2024 season, Luke Williams got to work immediately. And he made sure to finish the job with a triumph.
Under Williams’ mentorship, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) tasted their first major success. RCB had a tumultuous season but held their nerves when it mattered the most.
With the title in their bag, Williams will be eager to make two in two and make his coaching CV even stronger.
RCB WPL Support Staff: Malolan Rangarajan (assistant head coach & head of scouting), RX Murali (batting coach), VR Vanitha (fielding coach & scout)
UP Warriorz | John Lewis
UP Warriorz (UPW) will continue with John Lewis as their head coach for WPL 2025. The current England coach had a mixed bag last season, winning only three matches.
UPW also failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing in the fourth spot in the points table. Now Lewis will have to work with new skipper Deepti Sharma while Alyssa Healy misses out due to injury.
UPW WPL Support Staff: Anju Jain (assistant coach), Ashley Noffke (bowling coach), Lisa Sthalekar (mentor)
