As a teenager, your focus is on honing your cricket skills. You perhaps think of grinding hard at the domestic level. And then you dream of playing international cricket at the same time.
But there have been a few Indian cricketers who got to live that dream as teenagers.
Here’s a look at the top five youngest Indian debutants in men’s international cricket.
5. Parthiv Patel | 17 Years and 152 Days
A five-foot-three-inch tall Indian wicketkeeper-batter made his debut in 2002. And he’s none other than Parthiv Patel.
He perhaps had no idea he was the youngest wicketkeeper to debut in international cricket. He still holds the record, having debuted at the age of 17 years and 152 days.
While Patel got early opportunities, he couldn’t hold onto them well. And so he earned only 65 caps and scored 1706 runs across formats.
4. Laxman Sivaramakrishnan | 17 Years and 118 Days
You have perhaps seen him commentate in international matches. But before that, he bowled leg spin for India in the mid-1980s.
Laxman Sivaramakrishnan was a prominent leggie. An impressive Ranji Trophy season handed Siva his debut in 1983.
He looked set for a long career. But things didn’t really go his way. And he featured in just 25 matches, taking 41 wickets.
3. Piyush Chawla | 17 Years and 75 Days
Piyush Chawla is the third-youngest debutant for India in international cricket. He was 17 years and 75 days old on his Test debut against England in 2006.
When Chawla debuted, he perhaps hoped to make it big. But his international appearance was rather brief.
The former leg-spinner played 35 matches and picked up 43 wickets across formats. Chawla, though, had a successful IPL career.
2. Sachin Tendulkar | 16 Years and 205 Days
Sachin Tendulkar made his debut back in 1989. That 16-year-and-205-day-old kid walked in with the hunger. The hunger to pile up runs and records. A lot of them, actually.
And over the next 24 years, Tendulkar scored 34,357 runs in 664 international matches. That tally is incomplete without his 100 centuries, the only man to achieve the feat.
1. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi | 15 Years and 99 Days
15 years and 99 days. That’s not even the age you think of playing senior cricket in 2026. You perhaps aim for a spot in the under-19 side.
But here we have Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He didn’t waste much time earning his debut international cap.
After two impressive IPL seasons and under-19 outings, Sooryavanshi rightfully got his maiden call-up for the 2026 Ireland and England tour.
While he couldn’t get a chance in Ireland, he faced his first ball in the second T20I against England. Sooryavanshi’s debut match wasn’t memorable, though. He managed just 14 runs off 10 balls.
