List: Uncapped Batters to Score Centuries in IPL

The IPL is a hotspot for big-name players. Well, there’s no denying that this bunch of cricketers has made the T20 league what it is today.

But we can’t ignore the contribution from lesser-known players who amazed everyone with their talent. Some of them made a case for themselves by taking on international heavyweights without any global exposure.

It’s not an easy thing to do, but few managed to light up the IPL with their centuries as uncapped batters.

Here, we’ll list all the uncapped centurions in IPL’s history.

1. Shaun Marsh (Kings XI Punjab): 115 vs RR, 2008

The first-ever Orange Cap winner, Shaun Marsh, was also the first uncapped batter to score a century in the IPL. He had a decent international career for Australia.

But before he donned the Australian colours, he showed a glimpse of his talent for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2008. In a game against Rajasthan Royals, the left-hander scored 115 runs from 69 balls.

He netted 11 fours and 7 sixes on the way to power Punjab to 221 runs, which they later defended by 41 runs.

2. Manish Pandey (RCB): 114* vs Deccan Chargers, 2009

Manish Pandey joined Marsh on this list a year later. And with that, he also became the first Indian batter, capped or uncapped, to bring up the triple-digit figures.

Pandey came good against Deccan Chargers when other RCB batters struggled against them. He carried Bengaluru’s batting lineup single-handedly with his unbeaten 114 off 73 balls.

In the process, Pandey also raked in another record, not so glorious though, as he reached the 100-run mark in 67 balls, making it the slowest century in the IPL.

3. Paul Valthaty (Kings XI Punjab): 120* vs CSK, 2011

We have another Punjab batter on the list, a former colleague of Marsh. Paul Valthaty was a one-season wonder in IPL 2011.

After a poor outing against Pune Warriors, Valthaty turned up the heat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He led the charge for Punjab in a run chase of 189 runs.

Valthaty made sure he stayed till the end while batters supported him throughout the chase. He amassed a match-winning 120 off 63 balls to finish the chase with five balls to spare.

Valthaty went on to score 463 runs in the season but never replicated the same performance again due to injuries and poor form.

4. Devdutt Padikkal (RCB): 101* vs RR, 2021

Devdutt Padikkal was Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) top batter for two seasons in 2022 and 2021. After a good debut season in 2020 with 473 runs, he started the 2021 season with his maiden IPL ton.

In a 178-run chase against RR, Padikkal dictated the terms while opening alongside Virat Kohli. His 52-ball 101 not out made the chase easy for RCB, as they closed out the game in 16.3 overs.

5. Rajat Patidar (RCB): 112* vs LSG, 2022

The next season, another uncapped batter from RCB brought up his maiden IPL century. And this one from Rajat Patidar came at the right time.

RCB were one down in the Eliminator game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Then Patidar walked in at No. 3 to deliver a wonderful knock.

After a cautious start, he upped the ante with his 12 fours and 7 maximums. He batted till the end to score an unbeaten 112 runs off 54 deliveries. Patidar’s knock helped RCB advance into Qualifier 2, although they lost it against RR.

6. Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR): 124 vs MI, 2023

Yashavi Jaiswal has had a stellar start to his international career. But it was in IPL 2023, he displayed his talent in full force.

On a surface where other RR batters didn’t score more than 20 runs, Jaiswal netted 124 runs in 62 balls. He alone carried RR’s total to 212 runs. But Jaiswal’s effort fell through as Mumbai Indians aced the chase with three balls in hand.

7. Prabhsimran Singh (PBKS): 103 vs DC, 2023

Prabhsimran Singh has been with Punjab Kings (PBKS) since 2019. But he barely got any chances till 2022.

The franchise persisted with him, and he delivered big in 2023. Prabhsimran’s standout performance came towards the fag end of the season against Delhi Capitals (DC).

He scored a brilliant 103-run knock on a tough Delhi surface. Prabhsimran’s steady knock helped PBKS muster 167, which proved enough as DC faltered by 31 runs.

8. Priyansh Arya (PBKS): 103 vs CSK, 2025

PBKS may not have had a core setup throughout their existence, but they never shied away from giving youngsters a chance. And Priyansh Arya is just another example like Prabhsimran, Valthaty, and Marsh.

Arya, who made his IPL debut in 2025, started with a 47-run knock against Gujarat Titans. In the next two games, he couldn’t get past the single digits. He was out for a golden duck against RR!

But in a game against CSK, Arya made a 360-degree turn to bring up his maiden IPL ton. He scored an impactful 103 runs to revive PBKS from early jolts.

Arya reached his hundred off 39 balls, which is the second fastest by an Indian in the IPL. His clean striking saw PBKS put up 219 runs, which they later defended by 18 runs.
