The Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is in progress in England. And the event has already seen a few close games.
While tied games are rare in women’s T20Is, there’s still some possibility that we might see one.
So what if a match ends in a tie in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026?
As is the case, a Super Over will follow after a tied game. And the provision applies to all matches in the tournament.
How does the Super Over work?
So both teams bat for one over each. The Super Over typically starts five minutes after the tied game.
The team batting second bats first in this one-over eliminator. They can nominate three batters, while the bowling side picks the ball of their choice and the bowler.
If the batting side loses two wickets, they can’t bat further even if balls remain. The other team will then look to chase down the target.
The team with the most runs wins the Super Over and, ultimately, the match. Notably, all rules apply to the Super Over, along with DRS requests.
What if Super Over also ends in a tie?
This is an interesting case and a rare one. And if it happens, then we might see another Super Over.
More Super Overs may follow until a team wins, though they should happen within the stipulated time.
Are the rules the same for subsequent Super Overs?
Most of the rules stay the same. But there’s a little tweak when it comes to batting and bowling.
The batters dismissed in the previous Super Over can’t bat in the consecutive one. Likewise, a bowler can’t bowl in subsequent Super Overs.
What if Super Over isn’t completed?
If rain or bad weather doesn’t permit the Super Over to take place, then the match will result in a tie. And both teams will share a point each.
