Women’s T20 World Cup 2026: Is there a reserve day for semi-final and final?

The Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 has entered the business end. And with that, the race to secure the four semi-final spots has also intensified.

When are the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026?

The first semi-final is on June 30. And the second one is on July 2. Both semi-finals will take place at The Oval.

Is there a reserve day for the semi-finals?

Yes. While bad weather hasn’t affected the group stage matches, the ICC has allotted reserve days to both semi-finals.

In case rain or bad weather doesn’t allow a result on the scheduled day, the reserve day will come into effect.

What about the final?

The final also has a reserve day.

When will the reserve day come into play?

As per the playing conditions, the umpires will look to achieve a result on the scheduled day. But in case the weather doesn’t allow it, the match will go into the reserve day.

On top of that, the ICC has also allotted extra playing time on the scheduled and reserve days.

Both semi-finals have an extra 90 minutes on the scheduled day. The reserve day has 120 additional minutes.

For the final, the scheduled and the reserve days have 150 extra minutes each. The umpires can use this additional time to achieve a result.

What if the semi-final and the final move to the reserve day?

If the reserve day comes into play, here’s how the knockout matches will pan out.

Scenario 1:

Let’s say the match begins as a 20-overs-per-side contest. But rain interrupts the match after seven overs.

If the rain doesn’t allow the match to resume immediately, the match will start losing overs.

Suppose the umpires reduce the match to 16-overs-per-side. The match is about to resume, but rain interrupts again and no further play is possible at all.

At this point, the umpires will abandon the play on the scheduled day. And since the match didn’t resume with revised overs, the game will start afresh as 20 overs contest on the reserve day.

Scenario 2:

Let’s say the match resumes as a 16-over-per-side game. This time, the rain interrupts the game again after two overs.

Since the match resumed with revised overs, it will continue from the same point on the reserve day.

What’s the minimum overs needed for a result?

The team batting second should get to bat at least 10 overs, unless a legitimate result has been achieved before that in the knockouts.

In case the result can’t be achieved with minimum overs on the scheduled day, then the match will head into the reserve day.

If the minimum overs can’t be bowled even on the reserve day, then the group stage table-toppers will advance from the semi-final to the final.

If the same happens in the final, then both teams will share the trophy.
