
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set to host a player auction in November 2025. It comes on the back of India’s World Cup victory earlier this month.
So there’s a lot of excitement around the WPL 2026 auction. This will be the first mega auction since the league’s inaugural season in 2023.
So, when and where is the WPL 2026 auction scheduled?
The BCCI will hold the WPL 2026 auction on November 27 in New Delhi.
Alright, how many players have registered for the WPL 2026 auction?
As many as 277 players have put their names in the auction pool. 194 of them are Indian players, while 83 are overseas.
Among the foreigners, four are from associate nations – two from the UAE, one from Thailand, and one from the USA. Australia have the biggest contingent of 23 players, followed by 22 from England.

Have WPL teams retained any players?
Yep. All WPL teams could retain a maximum of five players before the auction. Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have used all their retention slots.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) retained four players, Gujarat Giants (GG) retained two, and UP Warriorz (UPW) held onto only one.

Okay. Now, how many slots does each WPL team need to fill?
So, each WPL team can sign a maximum of 18 players. Among them, a maximum of six can be overseas players.
Now, after the retentions, UPW have the most slots to fill – 17. GG follow them with 16 spots, while RCB have 14 berths. DC and MI have 13 slots each to complete their squads.

Is the RTM card available in the WPL 2026 auction?
Yes. WPL teams can use the Right-to-Match (RTM) card in the 2026 auction. The RTM availability, though, depends on the number of retentions made by each team.
So, teams that have retained five players won’t have an RTM card available. In this case, DC and MI are without an RTM card.
UPW have the most RTMs (four), while GG have three, and RCB can use it once in the WPL 2026 auction.

What’s the salary cap in the WPL 2026 auction?
Each team can spend a maximum of 15 crore to buy players. Some of that amount has already been used on retentions. UPW walk in with the biggest purse of 14.5 crore.
