Cricket South Africa announced the schedule of their first Test series, which is part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
The Proteas will be locking horns against India at home to kick off their WTC 2023-25 campaign.

But before that, we’ll take a look at their performance in the previous WTC cycle.
South Africa’s Performance in the WTC 2021-23
South Africa narrowly missed the bus to the 2023 WTC finals, as they finished in third place on the WTC points table.
The Proteas played a total of 15 Tests, as they registered 8 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw.
Out of the six Test series, South Africa won all three home series against India by 2-1 (3), Bangladesh by 2-0 (2), and the West Indies by 2-0 (2).
However, in three away series, they lost against Australia by 0-2 (3) and England by 2-1 (3), while they managed to draw the series against New Zealand 1-1 (2).
If not for these overseas losses, South Africa would have played in the WTC finals.
South Africa WTC 2023-25 Schedule
South Africa will play 12 Tests in the WTC 2023-25 cycle, three less than the previous edition. This schedule comprises six Test series featuring 2 Tests each.
The Proteas will play against three Sub-Continent countries at home — India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. Meanwhile, they will face New Zealand, the West Indies, and Bangladesh on away tours.
Home Series
1. South Africa vs India – Freedom Trophy
South Africa will host India for a 2-match Test series. The series, known as the Freedom Trophy, will take place between December 2023 and January 2024.
The first Test will be played between December 26 and December 30, 2023, while the second Test is scheduled between January 3 and January 7, 2024.

2. South Africa vs Sri Lanka
South Africa will play against Sri Lanka in a 2-match Test series. The series will take place between November and December 2024.

3. South Africa vs Pakistan
The Proteas will square off against Pakistan in their last WTC series in December 2024 and January 2025. The series comprises 2 Test matches.

Away Series
1. New Zealand vs South Africa
The South African team will fly to New Zealand to play their first away series in February 2024. They will play a 2-match series against the Kiwis.

2. West Indies vs South Africa
South Africa will tour the Caribbean for a 2-match Test series against the West Indies. The series will take place in August 2024.

South Africa will face the Bangladesh team in a 2-match Test series. The series will take place between October and November 2024.
