When does the Sri Lanka vs India Test series 2026 begin?
The series kicks off on August 15, 2026, with the first Test in Galle at 10:00 AM IST.
There’s also a three-day warm-up fixture ahead of the first Test. India will face Sri Lanka XI between August 7 and 9 in Colombo. This was initially a four-day game but later reduced to three.
How many Tests will both teams play?
It’s a short series of just two Tests. And it is part of the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Notably, this is India’s first Test series in Sri Lanka after 2017. The last time India toured, they clean swept the hosts by 3-0. India haven’t lost their last five Tests in Sri Lanka!
Which venues will host the series?
The series will take place across three venues in Sri Lanka. Colombo’s Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground will host the warm-up fixture.
Galle and Colombo (SSC) will, meanwhile, stage the two Tests, respectively.

What are the squads?
India revealed their squads 10 days before the warm-up fixture. While India are hampered by player injuries, they have announced a strong squad under Shubman Gill’s captaincy.
India, however, will be without the services of Jasprit Bumrah. J & K’s Auqib Nabi has replaced him in the squad. Nabi has been in impressive form in domestic cricket.
In Bumrah’s absence, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna will spearhead the pace attack, which also includes uncapped Gurnoor Brar.
In a big plus, Ravindra Jadeja has recovered from his injury. And he leads a spin-heavy attack, which includes Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain.
