After a gap of a year, the Lanka Premier League (LPL) returns in 2026. This will be the sixth edition of the tournament. Sri Lanka will host the league in July-August 2026.

When does the LPL 2026 season start?
The sixth season of the LPL starts on July 17, 2026. Galle Gallants will face Jaffna Kings in the season opener in Colombo at 7:30 PM IST.
How many teams are participating in the LPL 2026?
As usual, five teams will feature in this edition. But four of those teams are new.
Dambulla Sixers are the only team with an existing ownership. The other four teams have new names and ownership. And they are Colombo Kaps, Galle Gallants, Jaffna Kings and Kandy Royals.
What’s the format of the LPL 2026?
The league follows the usual double round-robin format. Teams will face each other twice, playing eight matches in the league stage.
After the league stage, the top four sides will advance to the playoffs. The top two teams will square off in Qualifier 1, while the other two teams will play in the Eliminator.
The loser of Qualifier 1 will get another chance in Qualifier 2, facing the Eliminator winner for a shot at the final. The winner of this match will face the Qualifier 1 winner in the final.
How many matches will take place in the LPL 2026?
A total of 24 matches will take place, 20 of them are part of the league stage.
Which venues will host the matches?
The LPL 2026 season will take place across four venues. Colombo (SSC), Pallekele and Dambulla will host league-stage matches in a caravan format. Colombo (RPS), meanwhile, will stage the entire playoffs.

What’s the complete schedule for the LPL 2026 season?
Colombo (SSC) will host the first leg from July 17 to 19. This is the first time SSC will host LPL matches.
The league will then move to Dambulla between July 21 and 26. Pallekele will host the last batch of league stage games from July 28 to August 2. The playoffs will then follow between August 5 and 8 in Colombo (RPS).
