
International cricket returns to India after a gap of three months. India start their 2026-27 home season by hosting Afghanistan right after IPL 2026.
Both teams will square off in just the second Test between them and the maiden bilateral ODI series.
When does the India vs Afghanistan series 2026 start?
The series starts on June 6, 2026, with the one-off Test. New Chandigarh will host the one-off Test starting at 9:30 AM IST.
Notably, this is the first-ever Test match in New Chandigarh. This red-ball fixture, though, isn’t part of the current WTC cycle.
How many matches are part of the series?
Apart from the one-off Test, India and Afghanistan will play three ODIs. The ODIs are crucial as both teams look to prepare for the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
Which venues will host the matches?
Three of the matches will take place in northern India. The Test, as mentioned above, is in New Chandigarh, while Dharamsala and Lucknow will host ODIs. Chennai will host the other one-dayer.

What’s the full schedule for the India vs Afghanistan series 2026?
After the Test match, both teams will engage in the three-match ODI series. The first of those games will take place at the picturesque HPCA Dharamsala on June 14.
Lucknow will host the second one-dayer on June 17. The third and final ODI will take place in Chennai on June 20. All ODIs will start at 1:30 PM IST.
