With the CPL 2026 in full swing, the Women’s CPL (WCPL) will return with a new season. The fifth edition of the WCPL will take place in September 2026.
So here’s all you need to know about the WCPL 2026 season.
When does the WCPL 2026 begin?
The WCPL 2026 starts on September 5 (September 6 as per IST). Barbados Tridents will take on Trinbago Knight Riders in the season opener in Bridgetown at 3:00 PM local time (12:30 AM IST on Sep 6).
How many teams are participating?
The WCPL 2026 has expanded to four teams. Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Empress are the other two teams, apart from the Tridents and the Knight Riders.
The Tridents are three-time champions, having won in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The Knight Riders won the league in 2022.

Tell me about Jamaica Empress…
Jamaica Empress is the sister franchise of Jamaica Kingsmen, who also made their CPL debut this year.
Kingsmen Sports Enterprises, owned by US-based Pakistani entrepreneur Fawad Sarwar, owns the Jamaica-based franchise.
So any changes to the WCPL 2026 format?
Yes. The league will see a single round-robin format instead of the double round-robin used last year. So teams will face each other once, playing three matches in the league stage.
There is, however, an addition of a playoff match, which will be contested between the second- and third-placed teams. The winner between them will play against the table toppers in the final.
How many matches will take place in the WCPL 2026?
A total of eight matches will take place in the league. Six of them are part of the league stage, while the other two games are the playoff and the final.
Which venue will host the WCPL 2026?
The entire WCPL 2026 will take place at the Kensington Oval in Babardos’ Bridgetown.
What’s the complete schedule for the WCPL 2026?
The league stage runs from September 6 to 13, with one double header September 12. The playoff and the final will then take place on September 16 and 17, respectively.

What are the squads? Any big names participating?
Each squads has 14 to 15 players on its roster. The Tridents have signed four overseas players, while the other three have five each.
Among the overseas, Meg Lanning, Shabnim Ismail, Nadine de Klerk and Marizanne Kapp are the names to watch out. Four Indian players will also be in action and they are Shikha Pandey, Yastika Bhatia, Pooja Vastrakar and Kiran Navgire.
Hayley Matthews returns to captain the Tridents, while the Amazon Warriors have appointed Chloe Tryon as their captain.
Deandra Dottin will lead the Knight Riders, while Stefanie Taylor will guide her home franchise.
